Retrofit & Replacement

Upgrade valve performance without replacing the valve body. ORBITRIM designs drop-in replacement trims engineered to reduce cavitation, excessive noise and vibration while retaining your existing valve body and top-works.

Why retrofit

Why Retrofit Instead of Replace?

Lower capital cost

Replacing the trim can avoid the cost of replacing a serviceable valve body, actuator and connected piping

Minimal plant modification

Where the existing valve envelope is suitable, the replacement trim is engineered to fit the existing body and top-works without major piping modification.

Reduced downtime

Designed for installation during a planned maintenance window, reducing the disruption associated with full valve replacement.

Improved valve performance

Multi-stage or application-specific trim can address cavitation, excessive noise, vibration.

What's included
  • Trim design sized to your existing valve body and connection geometry
  • Re-engineering of the original trim where the existing design is underperforming.
  • Precision-machined trim hardware with material certification

Good fit when…

  • The existing valve body and top-works remain serviceable.
  • The original trim is obsolete, unavailable or has an impractical OEM lead time.
  • You need to address cavitation, noise, vibration or erosion without replacing the complete valve.
  • Drawings are unavailable and trim needs to be reconstructed from existing valve dimensional information.
  • Process operating data is available or can be obtained.

Probably not this, if…

  • — The valve body itself is damaged, cracked, or undersized for the application
  • — The application has changed so much a different valve type is now required
  • — A complete valve replacement may be required. We'll advise you honestly if a trim retrofit isn't the right solution.
  • — There is insufficient dimensional or technical information to establish the existing valve and trim geometry, and the required measurements cannot be obtained.

Common questions

Do you need the original OEM drawings?

They help, but aren't required. We can work from field measurements of the existing body and internals if drawings aren't available.

What if the original trim is obsolete or no longer available?

We can reconstruct the trim geometry from available information and engineer a replacement for the existing valve.

Will you simply copy the original trim?

Not necessarily. If the original trim is known to be underperforming, we can review the flow geometry and re-engineer it to address the identified performance issue while maintaining the required fit and function.
